NOTICES

DEAR MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION: We have become aware that a member of the church has had an email hack which means that some members of the church will have received an email saying that the person is "unable to speak over the phone due to a serious throat pains caused by laryngitis, Just wanted to ask if you shop with Amazon?” If you receive an email such as this then it is highly likely to be a scam, which it was in this case. Please be vigilant and never reply via email to a person with such a request. Also, if you received this email and replied, we advise that you change your email password as soon as possible and explore a multi-factor sign in for your email account. If you have any other concerns about this then please contact either the Vicar or a Churchwarden. from Steven.

ORGAN RECITAL: By Sean Maxwell. Friday 24th April 7.30 pm. The Organist, Sean Maxwell, released a new CD at the end of last year entitled ‘Pipes and Port’ and is touring this country. We are very fortunate that he has chosen to give a free recital here in Royston.

THANK YOU: to everyone who donated Easter Eggs and towards the Easter flowers, and thank you to everyone who organised the Easter Egg Hunt and arranged the flowers. It helped people have a really joyful celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

TOMATO PLANTS: I am growing tomato plants again this year. Currently they are looking quite healthy and barring any unforeseen setbacks they should be available from the first weekend in May. I plan to have a stall outside of the church to coincide with the Bookfair on May 2nd and May 4th. They will be competitively priced, and proceeds will be donated, as usual, to the church funds. It would be extremely helpful if you would bring bags/boxes if you intend to purchase any. They will then be available throughout May every Saturday morning. Thank you for your support. Chris Wallis

BOOK FAYRE- We have our annual 2nd hand book fayre on Saturday 2nd and Monday 4th May. We are seeking donations of good quality 2nd hand fiction books. Book donations can be left at the back of church from 11th April. We're also seeking donations of cakes for refreshments on both days, and for the cake stall on 4th May. There will be a chocolate tombola, and any donations of chocolate for this will be gratefully received. HELP WANTED to set up the book stall on Friday 1st May, and to man stalls and / or serve refreshments on both days of the book fayre, and to tidy up afterwards. If you're able to help, even for just an hour, please can you sign up on the sheet at the back of church, on the day / time slot or slots that you're able to offer your time. Thanks in advance from the Events committee.

CHEESE and WINE EVENING: on SATURDAY 18th APRIL, 7:00PM at church. Ticket cost £12 and include cheese, crackers and a glass of wine or sparkling elderflower.Additional drinks available for a charge. Tickets must be purchased in advance for catering purposes- buy yours at

SUNDAY MORNING READING SHEET 19th April 2026 3rd Sunday of Easter

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say.

Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.’

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.

Acts 2:14,36-41

For the word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

GOSPEL

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke

All: Glory to you, O Lord.

Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, ‘What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?’ They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, ‘Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?’ He asked them, ‘What things?’ They replied, ‘The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.’ Then he said to them, ‘Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?’ Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.

As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, ‘Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.’ So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?’ That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, ‘The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!’ Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. Luke 24:13-35
