In 2022 we celebrated our 700th Birthday, and launched a project to complete urgent works to both the tower window and the nave roof, with the hope of keeping the church watertight and well maintained for future generations. This spring, those works have been carried out; terne-coated stainless steel replacing the temporary plastic covering the roof, and repairs made to the castellations and window masonry. The work has been made possible through the generosity of villagers and local companies, as well as donations from a number of Charitable Trusts. These include:National Churches Trust (£20,000)Garfield Weston Trust (£10,000)and Beds & Herts Historic Churches (£10,000)Thank you to everyone who has helped us reach our ambitious goal - we're looking forward to the scaffolding coming down very soon.
NOTICE IS GIVEN that we are applying to the Consistory Court of the diocese for permission to carry out the following:Replacement of existing plastic roof membrane to nave roof, with stainless steel sheeting with standing seam or batten-roll joints and bonded acoustic mat underlay, including repair and replacement of rotted timber support structure and remedial works to stone castellated parapet.
