Scarecrow Festival

Occuring
for 6 hours
Venue
St James The Great
Address
High Wych Road High Wych Sawbridgeworth, CM21 0JB, United Kingdom

We are delighted to say that we will once again be holding our traditional festival and would like to thank everyone for your amazing support in the past. We are grateful to High Wych School and The Rivers Hospital for once again lending car parking space.

Scarecrows - Anyone can make a scarecrow and there is no set theme. This can be placed in High Wych Road or High Wych Lane up to the Manor of Groves. You do not need to live in one of these roads to make one.

The only reserved areas are outside The Memorial Hall, the green triangle by Chandini’s and both sides of the road at the end of Broadfields.

Characters can be made out of straw or any other material such as wood or metal. Although we have brilliant creations something simple that has been lovingly made is equally special.

The Scarecrows should be erected on Thursday 5th September and removed on Wednesday 11th September and if you would like your scarecrow entered into the competition, it should be in position by 10 a.m. on Friday so a photo can be taken. Ian, our village postman will be helping with the judging combined with the public vote.

If you would like a STALL please contact Kate Clark on [email protected] for a booking form.

In ST. JAMES CHURCH this year the mini bugs will be gathering in the form of grasshoppers, beetles, snails, grasshoppers, ladybirds etc. At the back of the church there is plenty of wool for people to take plus various knitting patterns, we need at least 400, and there is also a box of material. The church is open from 9 – 4 pm every day. Please return any made items to the back of church by Wednesday 28th August.

With our grateful thanks to everyone for entering into the community spirit.

St James The Great

Welcome to St James the Great, High Wych!

Our delightful and unusually small Victorian church was designed by C.E. Pritchett and consecrated in 1861. It has a number of interesting features including a round bell turret with a blue 'Bennet' clock, a richly decorated apse and a two-manual 'Father Willis' organ and is situated next to its C of E primary school, High Wych School, which was built at the same time.

As part of the Benefice of High Wych and Gilston with Eastwick, we have a variety of services and events at all three of our buildings, and within our communities, so check out our 'Services' and Events' page to find out what on next at St James.

We're looking to see you there!
