St Margaret's

St Margarets is a small rural Church in the village of Ridge in the Diocese of St Albans.

The Church was established on this site in the 13th Century as a small chapel and was expanded to its current size in the 14th and 15th centuries.

It has a small but slowly growing congregation.

The Tower accommodates 6 bells the oldest bears the inscription “ William
Carter made me in 1613”. They were re hung in 1998 after the floor and supporting
frame were strengthened. The bells are rung before every Sunday morning Service.

The traditional oak pews and choir stalls were made and installed by craftsmen from the Robert Thompson Co. ( the mouse man ) from Yorkshire , who’s trade mark carvings of mice are discreetly hidden in 11 places throughout the furniture. Many visitors spend ages trying to find them, a few actually succeed.

An Organ originally built for a Lincolnshire Church in 1936 was purchased by
St Margarets and installed in 1989 producing a wonderful accompaniment to our hymn singing.

A Parish Paper is produced bi -monthly featuring Church events and matters of interest to the community’s of both Ridge and South Mymms ( the home of our sister Church
St Giles ). This Paper is delivered to every home in the two villages.
