Our Building
Built in 1734 as a Chapel of Ease for the residents of Markyate who had previously to travel to one of the three surrounding parishes (Caddington, Flamstead or Studham). The chapel became a parish church in 1877. A chancel was added in 1892.
Music and Worship
Our FUNdraising group stage occasional concerts.
Our robed choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings and performs on Sunday mornings as well as at occasional services.
Groups, Courses and Activities
Live@5 meets at 5pm on Fridays: a simple meal, play, story, songs and closing prayer.
Asylum seekers and refugees are always welcomed and are a blessing to us.
Markyate's exceptional pantomime take over St John's and stages a real pantomime in February each year.
Oh yes they do!
Help for Visitors
The church building is open all year round, during daylight hours, except when a special activity (such as the annual pantomime) requires us to lock the building for safety reasons. Visitors are welcome to look in at any time!
Other Features
The Parish Pantry is stocked by local donations and is available to those in need. No questions asked.
