About Us
St. John’s Church, Markyate, stands on the outskirts of the village, just off the A5183 next to Markyate Cell. The Church building dates back to 1734, but has been altered and extended over time. The church is home to a community of people who are open and accepting, friendly and excited by the Christian faith.
The church building is open all year round, during daylight hours, except when a special activity (such as the annual pantomime) requires us to lock the building for safety reasons. Visitors are welcome to look in at any time!
Our main service on a Sunday is the 9.30am Sung Communion, supported by our expanding parish choir. Rise and Shine (Sunday School) meets during the service.
For most of the year, we also hold a service of Communion on Wednesday at 10.00am and Choral Evensong on the second Sunday of each month at 17.00. Full details of all services can be found on our Benefice website.
