During this sung Eucharist service, twelve members of the congregation have their feet washed by the priest. This calls to mind the time when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. At the end of the service, the congregation sits in silence whilst the altar is stripped of all its coverings and then they leave the church in silence. This symbolises the disciples abandoning Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Safeguarding

"The parish of Redhill: St Matthew is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishop's guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officers, (PSO). The Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advises our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSOs (see link below) or the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services."
