During this sung Eucharist service, members of the congregation are invited to have their feet washed by the priest. This calls to mind the time when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. At the end of the service, the congregation sits in silence whilst the altar is stripped of all its coverings and then they leave the church in silence. This symbolises the disciples abandoning Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.
