Advent Carols by Candlelight

Advent is the time before Christmas when we look forward to the birth of Jesus Christ.

On Advent Sunday we celebrate the promise of Christ as a light shining in the darkness with readings & choral music by candlelight. We don’t sing Christmas carols yet, but Advent music has a magic all of its own with hymns such as “O come, O come Emmanuel”. We invite you to come and experience this atmospheric service in your historic parish church.

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” – Isaiah 9:2

Everyone is invited to this special service. Whether you are here for the first time or returning after time away, you are welcome at St Peter’s.

“O Dayspring, Brightness of Light everlasting,
and Sun of righteousness:
Come, and enlighten him that sitteth in darkness,
and the shadow of death.”

St Peter's, Berkhamsted

St Peter's Berkhamsted is the town's parish church and a centre of Eucharistic worship, music and community activity. In 2022 we are celebrating our 800th anniversary with a series of events for the whole town.  The church is open throughout the day - you are welcome here to pray, to sit and contemplate or to explore the historic building.

Worship

Our main Sunday service is the 9:30am Sung Eucharist. There are also services through the week, and a monthly service of Choral Evensong. Everyone is welcome at St Peter's, whether you are a regular churchgoer or exploring faith.
