Good Friday Sacred Concert: Stainer's Crucifixion.

Occuring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Peter's, Berkhamsted
Address
High Street Berkhamsted, HP4 2DJ, United Kingdom

As part of our Holy Week commemorations, St Peter's Church Choir will sing in a performance of John Stainer's Crucifixion. This sacred oratorio, composed in 1887, is subtitled "A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer". The piece is modelled on the great Passions of J.S. Bach — the story of the Passion and death of Jesus is told through a series of solos, choruses and hymns —but Stainer wrote it with parish churches in mind, as a way of allowing ordinary people to experience the extraordinary story of Good Friday. Through Stainer's moving music, we hope to renew our faith as we draw closer to the Passion story.

The congregation is invited to join in the hymns, and hymn-sheets will be provided. Entry is free with a retiring collection.

St Peter's, Berkhamsted

St Peter's Berkhamsted is the town's parish church and a centre of Eucharistic worship, music and community activity. In 2022 we are celebrating our 800th anniversary with a series of events for the whole town.  The church is open throughout the day - you are welcome here to pray, to sit and contemplate or to explore the historic building.

Worship

Our main Sunday service is the 9:30am Sung Eucharist. There are also services through the week, and a monthly service of Choral Evensong. Everyone is welcome at St Peter's, whether you are a regular churchgoer or exploring faith.

Safeguarding
