"Do this in remembrance of me"
As the drama of Holy Week gathers pace, we recall Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples on the night before he was betrayed and crucified. We celebrate the first Eucharist in the Christian Church, when Jesus shared bread and wine, and asked us to remember him always.
"Maundy" comes from the Latin word "mandatum", meaning commandment, reflecting Jesus' words, "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34)
"Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est"
- "wherever there is charity and love, God himself is there"
