Good Friday Liturgy

St Peter's Berkhamsted

High Street Berkhamsted, HP4 2DJ, United Kingdom

On this most holy of holy days - Good Friday - we turn our attention to the loving sacrifice God made for us on a Roman cross 2000 years ago. Through his experience of deep pain and anguish on that dark day, Christ drew himself closer to all who find themselves in a place of darkness, suffering, fear, or torment.

Join us for the sung Good Friday Liturgy as we recall the story of Christ's passion and death.

Good Friday Sacred Concert: Stainer’s Crucifixion

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Peter's Berkhamsted
Address
High Street Berkhamsted, HP4 2DJ, United Kingdom

We invite you to this short concert, to meditate on the story of the Passion, to join in singing the hymns, and to seek a renewal of faith through Stainer’s emotive music.

John Stainer’s 1887 oratorio "The Crucifixion" is a classic of Victorian sacred music which tells the Biblical story of the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus. It is modelled on the great Passions of J.S. Bach with its recitatives, chorales and congregational hymns, but specially designed for performance in a parish church, for ordinary people to experience the extraordinary drama of the Good Friday story through Bible verses set to music. Free entry, donations welcome.

“God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

Sung Eucharist for Easter Day

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Peter's Berkhamsted
Address
High Street Berkhamsted, HP4 2DJ, United Kingdom

Christ is risen! Alleluia!
We celebrate with joy the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead with readings and music. On this day, Jesus has shown us that death is not the end, and that God's love triumphs over all things. You are welcome to this celebration, whether you are here for the first time or returning after some time away.

"The strife is o'er, the battle done;
Now is the Victor's triumph won;
O let the song of praise be sung.
Alleluia!"

It is our tradition for our church choir to finish the 9:30 Easter Eucharist by singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. We also invite everyone to join in singing - we usually have a few copies to lend, but if you have a Messiah score, bring it along.
