Advent is a special time when we look forward with great anticipation to the birth of Jesus. From the town’s Festival of Light at the end of November, the excitement builds. We celebrate Advent Sunday 4 Sundays before Christmas Day, and through December, the community begins to celebrate with carol concerts and festive events looking forward to Christmas. At Christmas, we celebrate our faith that, whatever darkness there may be in the world or in our own lives, in God’s love we find a light that always shines through.Everyone is very welcome at St Peter’s, whether you are a regular worshipper, exploring faith or just feeling festive. Our doors are open for you.We wish everyone a peaceful and blessed Christmas.
The Festival of Light is Berkhamsted's pre-Christmas street fair with stalls and entertainments all down Berkhamsted High Street. St Peter's Church will be open to the public, and from 3:30pm we invite everyone to come in and experience the spectacle of this historic building lit by thousands of candles. Come in to enjoy the stillness, light a candle in prayer or simply wander around to view the beautiful architecture. Free entry - donations welcome. The High Street will be filled with food and drink stalls, and lots of local community groups offering gifts and refreshments - do go and say hello to the Swan Youth Centre, Friends of Swing Gate School, Sunnyside and Northchurch Baptist Churches, South Bucks Jewish Community! The main entertainments stage will be next to the Christmas tree outside Waterstones. Although St Peter's is not serving drinks this year, you're certain to pick up a hot Glühwein somewhere on the High Street!
