What?
St Hilda’s Church previously relied on two gas boilers, but after one was condemned in 2020, we operated on just one until the installation of a new electric heating system in July 2024. The PCC chose electric radiators for their efficiency and capacity to run on renewable energy, making our system net zero carbon.
Why?
In response to God’s call for stewardship of the earth, the PCC formed a heating committee to explore options. Electric radiators were determined to be the best choice for our building, providing an environmentally friendly solution for the long term.
How?
The installation process involved several stages:
1. An asbestos report and removal (September 2022).
2. Obtaining faculty permission (summer 2023).
3. Upgrading the electric supply, removing gas boilers, and installing new radiators.
The PCC is also working on heat loss improvements, such as heat screens and secondary glazing.
How much?
The total cost of the project was £64,000. While we are excited to offer a warm and welcoming space for all, we need to raise funds as our outgoings exceed our income.
The PCC is committed to ensuring St Hilda’s is there for future generations so we are asking for your support, however small or large.
