40 days from this date ago, we celebrated the birth of Jesus. On this date we celebrate Jesus' presentation in the temple after which we close the season that began in Advent and included Christmas and Epiphany. At Candlemas we close the season by turning away from the crib of Christmas and turning towards the Cross on which Jesus died for us, as we prepare for the forthcoming Season of Lent.
