This year we are following Paula Gooder’s course, ‘Women of Holy Week’, exploring the meaning of Jesus’ Passion through the eyes of key players such as Mary Magdalene and Mary the Mother of Jesus.

A simple, said celebration of Holy Communion lasting about thirty minutes and usually including a brief homily or 'thought for the day'. The service usually takes place in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel (to the left, just inside the church's main entrance) and is followed by coffee in the Lounge for those who would like to stay for a chat.

Special Messy church for Good Friday, All children must be Accompanied by an Adult

The service begins outside with the lighting and blessing of the ‘New Fire’ from which the large Paschal (Easter) Candle and (later) candles held by the congregation, are lit. The Deacon or Priest carries the Paschal Candle and leads the congregation into the dark and silent church which now represents the tomb.
Three ‘stations’ are made – mirroring the ones made by the cross on Good Friday – and the candle is then put in place in the sanctuary, and ‘The Exultet’ – an ancient hymn of praise - is sung.
