Tonight we remember our Lord Jesus instituting the Holy Communion Service - we imagine we are in the 'Upper Room' - and the Celebrant washes the feet of volunteer 'disciples', prior to the Eucharist being remembered and celebrated.
The Blessed sacrament is also reserved for use on Good Friday - and the sacrament is carried in procession to the High Altar area - which becomes for us 'Gethsemane' - the garden where Jesus prayed before he was betrayed.
We 'watch' with Christ - in prayer and meditation for a while after the Service. The Church will remain open to newcomers until 10.00pm, and then the watch will cease as we return to our homes.

Mitcham, St Peter & St Paul - Mitcham Parish Church

The parish of Mitcham: St Peter & St Paul is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
