Facilities and features
Accessibility
There is a single disabled access toilet at the rear of the church near the front door. Because we are a Grade II* listed building from 1821, it is with regret that we do not have more substantial cloakroom facilities.
This is within the disabled access toilet.
Parking is freely available directly opposite the Church entrance in Hallowfield Way. There are no parking restrictions for ordinary cars at any time. PLEASE park in this road rather than trying to squeeze in Church Path or Vicarage Gardens - where there is not enough resident parking already!
The disabled person's toilet at the back of church has a pull down arm and low level basin.
We try to be aware of different people's needs.
Drop-offs may be made in the pull-in immediately opposite the church tower off Church Road, but please do not park here, as more than one congregational member has mobility needs.
Parking is open and free directly opposite the church building in Hallowfield Way.
Please avoid parking in Church Path or Vicarage Gardens as resident parking is very tight.
Access from the pull-in is flat directly to the front door of the church and internally there are no steps throughout the building at nave level. There are steps up to the Nave Altar dais and High Altar Sanctuary; ramps can be provided.
An induction loop is available throughout the church building for those with a 'T' setting on their hearing aid.
We provide large print Hymn books, Service booklets and Weekly News Bulletins.
Assistance Dogs are welcome with their owners!
We are a dementia-aware congregation and try to support people who have needs as a consequence of dementia or other conditions.
Access into the building is level and a congregational member will be able to access all relevant areas. Sadly the Georgians who built the church did not have such insight, so the Old Vestry and Sacristy have limited access due to steps.
Our Building
We are a Grade II* listed building with mediaeval roots! Late Georgian - foundation stone of present church was laid in 1819 and the present church building was opened for worship in 1822.
Music and Worship
A new Mitcham Band was brought together in mid-2018, thanks to the encouragement of the Surrey Bellringers' Association, and now the Band is growing in confidence and is ringing regularly.
The practice night is Monday from 1900.
Pam Donovan is our Tower captain and trainer, and Norma Vieira our Secretary. David Coggins is Steeplekeeper.
We have a good-sounding electronic Allen Organ. Recitals on this beast are very popular!
Our Choir is meets to rehearse on a Friday evening at 7.30pm and sings at the 10.00 Sunday Parish Eucharist.
Andrew King is our Choir Director & Organist.
Groups, Courses and Activities
We have an active Mothers' Union branch, with a trio of people guiding as the Leadership Team. Please be in touch if you would like additional information.
Help for Visitors
We have a simple laminated 'Features of the Church' interpretation sheet which will guide you around the church.
Other Features
As much as is possible, we use Fairtrade products when we are allowed to serve refreshments
We regularly support the Wimbledon Foodbank by taking collected donations to their headquarters in Merton.
The Church and graveyard sits within the Mitcham Cricket Green Conservation Area.
The Parish Centre - directly across the road - is used by a Day Care organisation during the week through to 3.00pm. The main Centre Hall and kitchen is available to hire after that time and at Weekends (however two independent Church congregations meet regularly on Sunday afternoons).
The Parish Administrator - Sara Taylor - arranges Centre bookings on 020 8648 1566 or mpcsspeterpaul@gmail,com.
