About Us
At St Mary's Church we believe you will find a warm and very friendly welcome. Our congregation represents a very broad age range and we try to be as inclusive as possible in every way, in styles of worship and in all our other activities.
Sited right next to the busy A140 Norwich to Ipswich road towards the South end of the village you will find
St Mary's Church. The fine building dates back to the Norman period but from that era only the round flint tower remains. Of particular interest is the extremely rare Sexton's Wheel. The Sexton would spin the wheel to determine the day on which a parishioner should begin their discipline of fasting and prayer for Lady Day.
In 14th Century the building was almost completely rebuilt by the De Bourne family, it was reordered in the 19th Century and we have plans for significant improvements to the fabric in the near future.
