We welcomed Cliff Andrade (left in the picture) on the latest leg of his journey from John O'Groats to Lands End. Cliff is doing a sponsored walk in aid of Cancer charity, and to maximise the money he is able to raise he has been asking churches along the route if they could allow him to camp or free in their churchyards and use their facilities. Cliff, accompanied by two of his friends, arrived at Thornton on Monday 25th July around 9pm after a very long walk on a very hot day. Cliff comes from the Lincoln Diocese where the Bishop of Lincoln has been supporting his efforts. The three Walkers were up early on Tuesday morning to set off to Hebden Bridge. We wish them well on their pilgrimage!
Last Monday (25th July) we were pleased to welcome the Bishop of Leeds, Nick Baines, to our Parish for the Induction of our new Rector, Robert Findlow. The Service was also attended by our Archdeacon, The Venerable Jonathan Gough, and over 50 people, on a warm Summer's evening. Bishop Nick talked about building a church and listening to the history and stories of the church community. It was a great opportunity for us to sing hymns in our church, albeit behind masks, and to welcome our Bell Ringers back and hear a Peel of Bells - the first time since COVID lockdown imposed in 2019.We look forward to enjoying Robert's ministry here amongst us
