About Us
Welcome to St George's!
We're a traditional high church firmly within the Anglican tradition seeking to offer a warm welcome to all our visitors.
We're an inclusive congregation drawn together by our particular form of worship and the love, care and acceptance we try to show each other no matter what our personal circumstances and backgrounds may be. All who are seeking the love of God, the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and the compassion of a loving congregation are welcome - as are those who are unsure what all this means and are just looking for that "something" or "somewhere"
Set in Tombland - opposite the cathedral - you can find us next door to the Edith Cavell pub!
The Parochial Church Council has produced a mission statement - "St George's aims to be a living witness to Our Lord and an evolutionary catholic faith within Tombland and the city, whilst being a haven for spiritual growth and renewal for others and ourselves"
Sounds grand - we're not - and we hope that you'll appreciate what we mean when you visit us and experience the special nature of this beautiful church and share our worship.
Please have a look at the attached pages - they're full of interesting information - and don't forget the photographs which have become a photographic diary of what we get up to!!!
Our Sunday service is at 11 a.m. every week. The church is also open on some week day mornings and everyone is very welcome to pop in and experience this haven of peace in the middle of a busy part of the city.
To help quieten the soul and mind in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives we have morning prayer and regular services on weekdays, especially in Advent and Lent - please see the events section for further details. We work together with our sister Church, St George's Colegate, and share some services with St Giles on the Hill. You are welcome to join us at any of our services or the services at our sister Churches if and when we don't have one happening at our venue.
We look forward to meeting you.
