About Us

Part of the Parish of Wigan North West, St Barnabas is integral to life in Marsh Green. Our community chaplains can be found, week in week out, on the streets and in the shops and facilities of this neighbourhood which we love so much, offering friendship, spiritual guidance and practical help. Worship and community activities take place in such places as the local library and centres of education. In holiday times our food ministry ensures everyone gets a decent meal and outdoor activities give families an opportunity to get together.

Our church building was an important centre of worship and social services but sadly had to close for regular use on health and safety grounds. The parish is working with a coalition of organisations to replace it with a modern, multi-purpose building that can meet the needs of the community well into the future. In the meantime, regular worship and services such as christenings and weddings continue in the sister churches of St Francis in Kitt Green and St John’s Pemberton.
