Kelling Parish Council Community Beach and Village clean. Monday 29th August at 10.00am The Parish Council Beach Clean was extremely well attended. On a bright Monday morning the pickers made their way down Meadow Lane to the pebble bank. The main activity involved emptying the derelict boat of a huge array of washed-up and discarded rubbish to be driven up to the coast road and collected in the afternoon. The pickers split up to cover different sections of Muckleburgh Hill before meeting back at the Old Reading Rooms for coffee and cake. Thank you to all.
In November 2021, the PCC invited twenty masters and 3rd year students from NUA with their tutors to visit St Mary’s and to collaborate on several future projects. One outcome was a course assignment to design facilities for a toilet, kitchen and meeting space and also a covered, outdoor space for worship, life services and community gatherings – an idea conceived in response to local needs for a communal space and also the recent pandemic’s restrictions on indoor meetings and the consequent social problems caused by isolation. Kelling PCC sponsored NUA’s Department of Architecture for travel and student awards. The students presented their ideas in the church in April this year and it was lovely that so many people came from the village and further afield to hear and see their ideas. The PCC are committed to developing the church and churchyard for the use of the wider community. Please contact Tim Griffin, Chair of The Friends of St Mary's with any ideas and contributions you may have.
The tea party went off well. We were lucky with the weather on the Saturday and about 100 Kelling residents attended. We enjoyed good company, music and food. Outdoor games were completed and included sack race, egg and spoon and tug of war. The cake competition was won by the Savory family for an abstract entry. We appreciate the significant support of the Kelling Estate and the loan of chairs and tables from the Dugdale family. Many people helped and notable ones were Patricia Durrant, Rosemary Medler, Adrian and Juliet Taunton for assisting in setting up the art exhibition in the Church - in addition we were able to auction Adrian's painting of Kelling. Thanks also to the Parish council members for helping on the day and before. Finally, just over 1100 pounds was raised for the Church funds. People have now been asking for an annual fete.
