Family Communion for the Sunday last after Trinity (Bible Sunday): celebrant the Revd Tola Badejo.

First Reading: 2 Timothy 3.14 – 4.5
Gospel: John 5: 36b - 47

Today's readings explore the nature and value of scripture. Both the epistle and the Gospel emphasise the value and truth of scripture, but the Gospel in particular suggests that while scripture must be studied and venerated, it is not a substitute for a personal relationship with Jesus. The writers were of course working at a time when the Christian canon of scripture had yet to be established whereas older Jewish texts were well known, and so the readings also emphasise the importance of what is now the Old Testament.
