We will be celebrating Harvest with Harvest Festival services on Sunday 1 October at St Mary’s Runwell (9.30 am), St Andrew’s Wickford (10.00 am), and St Catherine’s Wickford (11.00 am). As usual all Harvest donations will go to the Food Bank in Wickford (The Gateway Project).
The Food Bank in Wickford has been operating for 10-years. Demand for its services has more than trebled since March 2020. On average each week it helps around 50 households. These numbers are expected to rise during the autumn and winter 2023/2024.
The Food Bank is supported through regular donations of tinned and packaged good. Many of these come from residents of our town, church members from our local churches, Coop supermarkets, local shoppers, local businesses and school Harvest Festivals. The Food Bank also collects and redistributes unsold fresh food “end of day” items from a few local retail stores.
The Food Bank would be grateful for donations in the following categories: Tinned meat; Tinned fish; Tinned fruit; Long-life milk; Tea; Coffee; Tinned vegetables; Tinned potatoes; Tinned tomatoes; Pasta sauce; Jam; and Marmalade. They are also grateful to receive donations of toiletry items - shower gel, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products.
A huge ‘Thank You’ to all who support the Wickford Food Bank.
