Chesterton - St Mary the Virgin

We hope you will feel welcome, whoever you are! Our church has been at the heart of village life for hundreds of years. Our regular congregation includes people of all ages and from all walks of life.

On the first Sunday of every month is the Young Families’ Service, which includes bible-storytelling, birthday prizes, and the occasional surprise visitor. On other Sundays there is a range of services – something, we hope, to suit everyone, ranging from the Book of Common Prayer to Taizé and modern worship songs.

St Mary’s works very closely with Chesterton School and is represented on the governing body.

Pastoral care is very important and individual members of the congregation are active in helping those in need in the village. Please get in touch with one of the wardens or clergy if you would like a visit or know of someone who would appreciate one.

There is a rota of local volunteers who are responsible for cleaning, flower arranging, bell-ringing and the upkeep of the churchyard.

The church is currently undergoing a period of restoration and renewal. We intend to install a WC and servery, make more space for socialising and performances, improve the heating and lighting, and generally make the building more inviting and accessible for everyone.

The church is normally open during daylight hours. There is seating in the pews for approximately 120.
