Come and join us at Morning Prayer and Holy Rosary tomorrow Wednesday 26 April at 10.00 a.m. as we celebrate St Mark the Evangelist during this Easter season. He is usually identified with John Mark, whose mother's house in Jerusalem was used for the apostles to meet, and also with the 'young man' (Mark 14: 15) who followed Jesus after his arrest and escaped. He was a companion of Paul and Peter, and accompanied Paul and Barnabas (who was Mark's cousin) on the first missionary journey, but turned back at Perga. Peter referred to Mark as his 'son', which makes it likely that Mark's gospel represented the teachings and the memoirs of Peter. Eusebius reckoned that Mark was the first bishop of Alexandria, and it was also believed that Mark was martyred in 'the eighth year of Nero'. In the 9th century his body was brought to Venice, and he became the patron of that city-state. The original church was burnt down in 976 AD but the rebuilt church contains his relics and a series of mosaics about Mark's life, death and translation.

St Michael & All Angels

St Michael and all Angels' is a friendly multicultural church located in the heart of Walthamstow, very close to the vibrant high street.

We are currently in interregnum at St Michael's but are looking forward to our new full-time priest very, very soon.

We would like to thank Fr. Alex Summers and his family for their hard work and for bringing the community together in the 6 years they were with us.

Please pop in and join us at one of our services. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram @stmichaelstow.

God Bless
