Come and join us tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. for our celebration of Refreshment Sunday, mid-Lent or Mothering Sunday or Laetare Sunday. This was the day when those who had been baptised visited either the parish church where they were baptised or their cathedral, and it was also the tradition for servants to be given the day to visit their mothers - in the 16th century this was referred to as 'mothering'. The tradition declined in the 19th century but was revived by Constance Penswick Smith in 1913 as a response to an American's demand for a day celebrating mothers in the United States (Mothers' Day). Constance Penswick Smith linked the concept of Mary the Mother of God with our earthly mothers, the church where we were baptised and our Mother the Church together, and the tradition continues to this day. It is always on the fourth Sunday of Lent which is also known as Laetare Sunday (Rejoice) from the 66th chapter of Isaiah, which forms the introit for the day. All are welcome, either in person or on the livestream!

St Michael & All Angels

St Michael and all Angels' is a friendly multicultural church located in the heart of Walthamstow, very close to the vibrant high street.

We are currently in interregnum at St Michael's but are looking forward to our new full-time priest very, very soon.

We would like to thank Fr. Alex Summers and his family for their hard work and for bringing the community together in the 6 years they were with us.

Please pop in and join us at one of our services. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram @stmichaelstow.

God Bless
