Come and join us tomorrow, 26 February, for our Parish Mass for the First Sunday of Lent! Those who were not able to come to Mass on Ash Wednesday are most welcome to attend tomorrow for the Imposition of Ashes in the Christ the King chapel after Mass. Our Gospel reading records Jesus' sojourn in the wilderness for 40 days and nights (40 marking the Jews' exile over 40 years in the wilderness before they could return home). Jesus isn't some faraway god who dispenses nice or nasty things to humans as the caprice takes him (read any of the great plays of the Greek era such as the Oristeia and you'll learn all about the capriciousness of the gods). Jesus is fully human, and endures the same temptations we endure - power, influence, wealth, acknowledgement by our peers - but he resists them as he is also fully divine. However, it is to be noted that angels come to minister to Jesus in the wilderness, just as angels come to strengthen him in the Garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion. This gives us all hope: weak as we are, we can call upon Jesus and all the angels of heaven to strengthen us when we are tempted. All are welcome to join us, in person or on the live stream! Of course, you can't be ashed remotely!

St Michael & All Angels

St Michael and all Angels' is a friendly multicultural church located in the heart of Walthamstow, very close to the vibrant high street.

We are currently in interregnum at St Michael's but are looking forward to our new full-time priest very, very soon.

We would like to thank Fr. Alex Summers and his family for their hard work and for bringing the community together in the 6 years they were with us.

Please pop in and join us at one of our services. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram @stmichaelstow.

God Bless
