Come and join us tomorrow morning at 10.00 a.m. for Morning Prayer and Holy Rosary as we celebrate the feast day of James of Jerusalem, brother of Our Lord. Although James was not one of the original apostles, he was the first leader of the Jerusalem Church of the apostolic age. It is believed that he was stoned to death on the orders of the High Priest Ananus ben Ananus in AD 62 or 69. He along with Joses, Simon and Judas is mentioned in the gospels of Matthew and Mark as 'brother' of Jesus. He is also referred to as James son of Alphaeus, and he led the Jerusalem Church with the apostle Peter. In Paul's epistles and later chapters of the Acts of the Apostles James is portrayed as a very important figure in the early Jewish Christian community, and in Paul's letter to the Galatians he tells them that he stayed with Cephas (a.k.a. Peter) and the only other apostle he met was James. We give thanks for his life and witness.
