MOTHERS' UNION
Our Branch at St. Peter's meets on the fourth Friday of each month (except no meeting in August and on the 3rd Friday in December) in 'The Honywood', Hall Road, Great Totham, at 1.45pm. We have a short service, catch up on recent information from Witham Deanery and Chelmsford Diocese, welcome speakers and plan forthcoming events like our arrangements for the Flower Festivals and cake and plants stalls. We are in the Witham Deanery along with St. Michael's Church, Copford, St. Andrew's Hatfield Peverel, St. Peter & St. Paul Mersea Island, All Saints Messing, All Saints Terling, St. Mary's Tollesbury and St. Nicholas Witham. Deanery meetings are held twice each year when members from all the branches meet to organise joint events. Twice a year members from the 22 Deaneries in the Chelmsford Diocese meet in Chelmsford Cathedral for a Eucharist, hear reports from Action & Outreach, Marketing & Publicity, Prayer & Social Policy and Finance & Membership Units.
Mary Sumner started the first Mothers' Union branch from her vision of a network of caring Christian ladies offering love and support for families in difficult circumstances. Mothers' Union now works through 4 million Christians in over 83 countries and on 9th August, Mary Sumner Day, we will be celebrating 140 years since the first branch was opened.
