St Matthew’s is a growing and thriving church in the Open Evangelical tradition of the Church of England. We provide a regular pattern of worship which brings together a wide range of ages, backgrounds and approaches to God. We aim to share the love of God with people in the parish and beyond in practical ways, while holding worship as our central purpose. We want to equip people to live faithful lives every day – not just coming to church on Sundays – and so we hold a number of groups through the week.
Ministry is increasingly shared among all members, lay and ordained, as we seek to identify how the Lord is calling people to use their God-given talents in different ways.
We are part of the Tolworth Hook & Surbiton Team Ministry.
St Matthew is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

Most churches are “Excepted Charities” and are therefore not registered with the Charity Commission. You can download a PDF that includes your church name, address and church code. This PDF, which is an extract from the Church of England’s database of churches, can serve as a certificate for churches requiring proof of their charity status when registering for online and card-based giving. Click on the download button below and fill in the short form. You will then be emailed the certificate as a PDF.
