Rooms for Hire

St John’s Church has various areas available for use and we are keen to welcome bookings from groups supporting the local community. There are 3 key areas within the Church to suit a wide range of events:

* The main church

* The lower lounge

* The upper lounge

The Main Church

The main church is suitable for larger events and concerts. The seating is theatre style, accommodating 174 people in the main church pews. Additional seating can be utilised in the side chapel, accommodating a further 30 people. There is under-pew heating. The Church is equipped with a grand piano and an organ, which are available upon request.

The Lower Lounge

A flexible space, suitable for a range of activities such as meetings and small to medium sized events. The lounge is set up with a number of cafe tables and comfortable sofas but alternative seats and tables are available. There is a kitchen area equipped with sink, fridge, kettles and serving area as well as crockery and cutlery.

The Upper Lounge

A flexible space for a range of activities such as meetings and small to medium sized events. Chairs and tables are available. There is a small kitchen area with sink, kettle and fridge. 

Accessibility

The main church and lower lounge are on the ground floor, which is fully accessible. The upper lounge is accessed by stairs or a small lift. The lift is a specialist platform lift suitable for wheelchairs and there are toilets on both floors suitable for use by disabled visitors.

Cost

Contributions from those using the church help offset the running costs. The minimum contribution rates are available on request.

Parking

Free on street parking is available on Moulsham Street, this is limited to 1 hour between 9:00am and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday. Alternative parking is available in the Moulsham Street surface pay-and-display car park, accessed via George Street. (Please check parking arrangements are still current at the time of your booking.)

Please note we are keen to encourage and promote the use of the church for the community but we reserve the right to decline groups whose ethos does not match our values.

St. John's Church Hall

St. John's Church Hall is situated in Vicarage Road, Chelmsford and is available for hire. It has kitchen facilities, toilets and heating. It is an ideal venue for children's parties, meetings, classes etc.

Cost

Rates are from £20.00 per hour in the summer and £25.00 in the winter.
