.There’s a small but enthusiastic group of volunteers, who go in every Monday and Tuesday morning to support the men with English conversation skills. This is about so much more than just teaching – it’s about building relationships and showing welcome to people who have fled appalling circumstances. However they are very short of resources and desperately need exercise books, writing materials and whiteboards. We will be having a collection on 20th October after both services. Any contributions will be very gratefully received. Thank you so much. Natasha
Simon & Ben will appear briefly on the BBC Antiques Roadshow programme on Sunday 8th September at 8 p.m. This episode was filmed at Firstsite Colchester back in June. Simon took a small, highly detailed watercolour/gouache painting from Feering Church to be examined and valued. It is by a fairly minor Italian artist, Ricciardo Meacci, who was heavily influenced by the English Pre-Raphaelite painters, and Queen Victoria was an admirer of his work (there seem to be several Meacci paintings in the Royal Collection). The expert and Simon discuss the painting on camera for a few minutes in the usual Antiques Roadshow way. Unfortunately the BBC was decidedly not keen to follow the link between the painting and royalty, so Simon will tell you about this in due course – if you’re interested! You will need to watch the programme to find out how much the painting is estimated to be worth.
The tools and other items you so generously donated were picked up by TWAM as planned on Thursday 2nd May, and are now on their way to begin their new lives. A very big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who donated and who was involved
