Having your Banns read at St Clement with St Peter

First of all, congratulations on your engagement!

You are probably on this page because you are getting married in a church, and the vicar who is marrying you has asked you to contact your parish church to have your banns read. We are happy to help if we can! Read on for more details…

As you may already know, marriage by banns is possible when both you and your partner are UK or Irish nationals or have (Pre-)Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme. If one or both of you are not UK or Irish nationals or do not have (Pre-)Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you will need to apply for a Superintendent Registrar’s Marriage Schedule, usually at the registry office of the borough where the wedding will take place.

If you are marrying by banns, the banns of marriage are read in the church where the wedding is to take place and in the parishes where each of you resides.

To check whether you live in the parish of St Clement with St Peter, please enter your address on A Church Near You or get in touch with us, and we can help you.

If you do live in our parish and are a UK or Irish national or have (Pre-)Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you are eligible to marry by banns, and we will be able to read your banns here at our church.

Please fill in the Banns Application Form on this page and bring it to St Clement with St Peter Church on a Sunday morning. The attached form details the information we need from you, as well as the forms of identification you must bring for verification.

The 2025 fee for the publication of banns and the certificate is £56. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, or bank transfer.

Our Sunday morning services start at 10 am and finish around 11 am. We would love for you to join us for the service, or if you prefer, you can come along immediately afterward to hand in your form to either the PCC Secretary, Penny Shelley, or the Vicar, Revd Gemma.

It is best to let us know in advance that you are planning to come so we can confirm that one of us will be available to assist you. We very much look forward to meeting you!

If you have any questions about having your Banns of Marriage read at St Clement with St Peter, please contact Penny Shelley, our PCC Secretary, at [email protected].

Please allow a minimum of 5 Sundays and a maximum of 3 months between arranging your banns and the day of your wedding!
