One Sunday afternoon in July someone noticed that all the church doors were open and the bell tower light was on in the middle of the day. At the Monday night bell-ringing practice, the ringers discovered that the two Wardens’ Wands, normally attached to the pews, had been broken off and were lying on the floor.
The church is a place of sanctuary, open all the time to everyone. It is used by those seeking prayer and solitude, by people exploring the area or tracking down family history, and also by walkers and visitors using its facilities. It would be a pity to have to start locking the doors so that these visits are no longer possible.
