St Nicholas Church, South Ockendon
St Nicholas, South Ockendon is a small, friendly church where ALL are welcome and equally valued, irrespective of age, race, creed, ability, gender or sexuality. While we do not currently have a Sunday School, we have a dedicated children's play area and children and families are welcome to all our services.
We are a Church of England church in the Mardyke Team Ministry, which is to be found in Thurrock Deanery in Chelmsford Diocese. We are part of the Church of England.
Our priests are Fr Matt Drummond and Revd Tara Frankland and our Lay Minister is Glynis Pettit. Our Church Warden & FB administrator is Kat D'Arcy-Cumber.
St Nicholas of Myra was dedicated in 1142 and is one of only six round towered churches in Essex; our grade I listed church is the closest round towered church to London. We are an Anglo-Catholic Church, although we hope you will find us to be quite relaxed and informal in many ways.
Alongside our weekly services we offer Morning Prayer each weekday morning on our Facebook page and a weekly online gathering on Zoom for Night Prayer each week.
St Nicholas sits at the centre of Ockendon Village and seeks to serve our community in whatever way we can.

Most churches are “Excepted Charities” and are therefore not registered with the Charity Commission. You can download a PDF that includes your church name, address and church code. This PDF, which is an extract from the Church of England’s database of churches, can serve as a certificate for churches requiring proof of their charity status when registering for online and card-based giving. Click on the download button below and fill in the short form. You will then be emailed the certificate as a PDF.
