About Us

The United Benefice of Stratfield Mortimer, Mortimer West End and Padworth is situated about ten miles south of Reading. Its aim is to further the mission of the Church in this area to the glory of God. There are four churches in the Benefice and two Church schools, St. Mary’s (VA) Juniors and St. John’s (Controlled) both in Mortimer. A daily Eucharist is offered at varying times and places and the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in all our churches (except St. Mary’s).

Vicar: The Reverend  Paul Chaplin.
Associate Priest: The Reverend Dr Derek Spears
Benefice Safeguarding Officers: Mrs Elizabeth Porter and Mr Andrew Higgs

Padworth has a perfect example of a little Norman parish church - and is one of the smallest in the county. It was entirely built in 1130. Only the windows and the roof of the nave have been replaced, in Tudor times. The porch was added in 1890.

It has a weekly Sunday service (alternating 9 am Eucharist and 6.30pm Evensong with Mortimer West End).

The Benefice Office is open from 9 am-12 noon Monday to Friday.
