We managed to hold 8 quizzes this season for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Numbers this season have not returned to pre-pandemic levels but have seen a small increase over last year. We hope that we can continue this trajectory next season toensure the future of the event. The regular quizzers continue to enjoy coming and there has been a good atmosphere at all the quizzes this season. We have also continued to offer the quiz by email and the teams which have regularly participated in this way have enjoyed being able to have a continuing connection with us, despite having moved away from the area. Our support for local charities through the raffle at each quiz has continued and people have again been very generous. In total we have raised more than £2,600 for 8 different charities (the exact figure isn’t yet known as there are a couple of donations still to arrive). This year we have supported the following charities: SOFEA, Didcot TRAIN, Be Free Young Carers, Didcot Foodbank, The Abingdon Bridge, All Yours, Oxfordshire MS Therapy Centre and Didcot Community Partnership. All of the charities have been able to send a speaker to the quiz and through them we have learnt many things about the pressing needs in our community and the way in which these wonderful organisations are addressing them. The trophy for the best performing team of the season was won by The Choir who after poor performances in the Autumn pulled ahead of The Heretics in the final quiz of the season.
Running the quizzes is a real team effort and we are particularly grateful to Maurice and Margaret who run the bar, the scorers Frances and Angela, and to Helen, Samuel and Anita who regularly help. The Didcot Fish Bar have once again provided a wonderful service in producing large quantities of fish and chips.
The most important thanks are due to the 8 quizmasters who have set wonderfully varied and imaginative quizzes for us this year: they are Richard Cooper, Andy Strangeways, Chris Lambert, Margaret Meardon, Geoff Reed, Rhiannon Lovell, Laura Elliottand Jon Driscoll. Without them we would have no quiz at all.Our next season is our TWENTIETH and will begin on September 16th.If you know anyone who might like to organise a team or of any local charity which we could support do please get in touch. And if you want to know anything about the Quiz Nights speak to Alan or Hugh who will be happy to tell you more.Alan & Hugh
