The Churches Fellowship for Psychical and Spiritual Studies 70th Anniversary UK Tour, 2023
What do the Bible and Church have to say about the paranormal?
You may be aware that over the past twenty years interest in the paranormal has blossomed into mainstream media, and has become big business with many of the approximately 900 ghost- hunting groups in the UK alone providing the public with the chance to explore and seek after spiritual experiences with another realm. According to several polls, nearly 50% of the public claim to have had an experience with something in the unseen realm, and many believe in the power of psychics and mediums to be able to communicate with the dead. In these sad times of once more experiencing mass deaths on a national scale with the pandemic, we are again seeing an increasing public interest in looking for answers regarding the paranormal. Is the Church able to address these questions satisfactorily, or will our answers lead to people seeking answers elsewhere which engage with what they claim to have experienced?
The talks
The Afterlife and the Bible: What does the Bible teach us about the afterlife, the time between physical death and the resurrection? Is it merely an unconscious ‘soul sleep’, or is there awareness by those who reside there? What does the Bible say about the various places in the afterlife, and how do afterlife beliefs evolve over time as the scriptures are written?
Ghosts in the Bible and Today: We explore then ghostly world of the writers of the Bible and how they incorporated their beliefs about ghosts into their texts. We then explore some modern Christian encounters with ghosts and see how these fit with early Judeo-Christian beliefs regarding our dear departed.
Pie and pea supper is served at 6pm (book ticket here) talk starts at 7pm. Book free ticket here with donation on the night towards costs.
