The Liturgy of Maundy Thursday

Occuring
for 4 hours, 59 mins
Venue
Bradford Cathedral
Address
Stott Hill Bradford, BD1 4EH, United Kingdom

Maundy Thursday (from mandatum, ‘commandment’, because of the use of John 13.34 in the Antiphon) contains a rich complex of themes: humble Christian service expressed through Christ’s washing of his disciples’ feet, the institution of the Eucharist, the perfection of Christ’s loving obedience through the agony of Gethsemane.

All are welcome to join us for the Maundy Thursday Liturgy, which includes The Washing of Feet, The Stripping of the Sanctuary and The Watch in addition to The Eucharist, as we continue to walk with Jesus through the events of Holy Week.

We re-tell the story of Jesus’ passion for the world through a moving service in which we re-enact his washing of the disciples’ feet, remember him in the sharing of bread and wine, and then have the opportunity to keep ‘The Watch’ with him at the Altar of Repose until his arrest at midnight.

You are welcome to join us for the whole or a part of the service.

Bradford Cathedral

Bradford's beautiful Cathedral is a hidden jewel waiting to be discovered. Set in tranquil gardens the Cathedral is alive with a sense of story from its thirteen centuries at the heart of the city.

This, the third church on the site, is over 500 years old, with twentieth century additions. Bradford's most ancient place of worship is friendly, peaceful and fascinating, with many special features.

The parish of Cathedral Church of St. Peter Bradford is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Leeds’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
