The popular weekly free ‘Wednesday@One’ organ recitals will return to Bradford Cathedral, after a short break for Easter.
This season will feature a line-up of ten organists, starting with Darius Battiwalla, on Wednesday 26th April 2023.
The organ recitals begin at 1pm every Wednesday (apart from a break for half-term on the 31st May) and are preceded by an optional £4 buffet lunch at 12:30pm.
The organ recitals are free to attend, though donations are welcome. The recitals last around 45 minutes and those attending are also welcome to explore the Cathedral before and after the recital.
Graham Thorpe, Assistant Bradford Cathedral Director of Music, says:
“We're absolutely delighted to be continuing our regular Wednesday@One organ recitals. The recitals are friendly and entertaining, consisting of 45-minutes of top-class organ playing, with the recitalists introducing pieces as they go.
“We would love to see as many people as we can join us for the weekly recitals! They have a great atmosphere, and the recitalists are all fantastic, with some local figures, but with big names from further afield, too.
“For this season we feature Music for Royal Occasions, to celebrate the forthcoming coronation of King Charles III. The season includes the Revd Pete Gunstone, our precentor, playing William Walton’s famous Crown Imperial march and Darius Battiwalla performing some of the Music for the Royal Fireworks by Handel.”
The final organ recital of the season will be played by William Saunders from Ipswich. Following this, the organ will undergo a period of maintenance over the summer, and you will be able to follow the progress of that on Bradford Cathedral’s social media.
Following these works, Gordon Stewart will give a grand opening recital on Wednesday 4th October.
