Linking Lives is a national charity and here in the Crofton Park ward, we run a franchise of that charity. The project was set up in Crofton Park in 2016. The project aims to confront and alleviate the effects of loneliness in the community, which is a big problem. Most of our friends, as we know our clients, are elderly and housebound but loneliness is an issue that is not restricted to the older community and I am receiving referrals for lonely people who are younger. The project is run here at St Saviour's church, and we currently have around 22 volunteers who help around a similar number of isolated clients. Although the national charity was originally set up as a Christian charity, most of our volunteers don't come from a Church background and we welcome people to the scheme, both volunteers and our friends, of all faiths or none! Do you have 30 minutes or hour to spare, once a week or once a fortnight, that you could visit a person experiencing loneliness, then please do contact me to have a chat to explore the possibility.
