St Mary's is open for private prayer everyday from 9.30 am to 4.00pm, except when there is a service or event in the Church.

Evensong is a service that’s traditionally held - as the name suggests - in the evening, marking the passing of another day in faith. It’s fairly short, usually around 40 minutes, and features choral music, readings and prayers.

This is a shorter (said) version of a Eucharist service, without the hymns or a sermon.

St Mary's has an enthusiastic robed choir who lead the congregation in worship, accompanied by the organ.

They also perform anthems for special services, and are particularly busy over Easter and Christmas, with both Advent and Christmas carol services.

Choir practice is in St Mary's Church on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. Newcomers, ideally with a basic ability to read music, are always welcome.

A service of Holy Communion which usually includes a sermon and four hymns. The term "Sung" means that, in addition to the hymns, some parts of the service are sung by the congregation. The words and music are in the service booklet and are easy to sing!

A service usually led by our lay reader. There are hymns, readings and a sermon, but no Eucharist.
Morning Prayer can be divided into three parts: Preparation, Proclamation, and Prayers.

From the Church of England website: A parochial church council (PCC) is the executive committee of a Church of England parish and consists of clergy and churchwardens of the parish, together with representatives of the laity. It has its origins in the vestry committee, which looked after both religious and secular matters in a parish. It is a corporate charitable body.

Legally the council is responsible for the financial affairs of the church parish and the maintenance of its assets, such as churches and church halls. It also assists the clergy in the management of church affairs in the parish, and promoting the mission of the church.

St Mary's Choirmaster and Organist, Martin Rhodes writes:

We don’t often get the chance to meet up for a coffee and a chat — but on Saturday 31st January we do, and we’ll enjoy a good sing as well.
Singing is great for our health and wellbeing. It’s fun, relaxing, and brings people together.
Men often say “we can’t sing” – well it doesn’t sound like that at the football or rugby!
Despite the photo at the top of the page, this is a relaxed, friendly morning. There’s no pressure, no need to read music, and no singing experience required. We’ll learn a few songs you’ll probably already know or recognise.
We’ll start with a hot drink at 10:00am before learning some new songs and remembering old favourites. Please bring a bit of lunch which we will share together at midday, before we finish around 12:30–1:00 - perhaps with a few new friends.
It’s not religious, it’s open to all men, and friends are very welcome.
