He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; Isaiah 2 : 4Readings this week Isaiah 2 : 2 - 4; John 15 : 9 - 17Some thoughts for this weekWe come today to remember those who died in the wars defending our country, to give thanks for our freedom and to commit ourselves to the way of peace, in the strength of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Yet this Remembrance again reflects all the turmoil of war. Voices calling for both peace and for war. Voices calling for compassion and yet demanding justice. All the horrors of war continuing throughout the world. At the moment news is being released of the situation in The Sudan. What can we say? Except to remember those who gave their lives for peace and freedom, and to pray for peace still to come in our world, and look to Jesus who alone can bring true and lasting peace to our world, to our lives, to our communities. We are called to pray.Jesus constantly points us towards our participation in the Kingdom. At the Last Supper He tells us, “Love each other in the same way I have loved you” John 15 : 12. We are all called by Jesus to take part in His Kingdom. To bring peace in our homes, our families. For the turmoil of bitterness and conflict to cease. So we are called to pray, and to live our lives in Jesus’ enfolding Peace. Rev PaulPrayer for this weekAlmighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AmenGod, our refuge and strength, bring near the day when wars shall cease and poverty and pain shall end, that earth may know the peace of heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. AmenWe praise the Lord and give thanks for…The shoeboxes we have gathered, and for the hope and joy they will bringFor all those coming to our churches over this weekend for Remembrance

When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.’ Luke 19 : 5Readings this week Isaiah 1 : 10 – 18 , 2; Thessalonians 1; Luke 19 : 1 – 10Some thoughts for this weekOur Gospel reading today features the encounter between Jesus and Zaccheus, the tax – collector. Just as Jesus looks up into Zaccheus’ tree, and calls to him, Jesus reaches out to each of us, to show we are loved, called, invited. Called to open our homes, our lives, even the deepest parts of ourselves to Jesus’ healing and His love. Zaccheus’ life was turned around not through fear, but through grace, through mercy and acceptance.Today is our shoebox Sunday. It is inspiring to be able to put the shoeboxes together, and know they will be put into people’s hands whose lives are so much harder than our own. Maybe they feel forgotten, isolated, unloved. We pray the shoeboxes will make them know they are loved by Jesus. That He reaches out to them.Jesus’ love has no limits, no boundaries. Noone is excluded, set apart, isolated from the Lord’s love. Jesus tells Zaccheus to ‘hurry’. We are all so good at putting things off, delaying, postponing. Jesus’ love is now, for today. Let us hurry to ‘get right’ with God. To receive His healing and forgiveness. To open our hearts to Him. Let’s not delay. Rev PaulPrayer for this weekAlmighty and eternal God, you have kindled the flame of love in the hearts of the saints: grant to us the same faith and power of love, that, as we rejoice in their triumphs, we may be sustained by their example and fellowship; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AmenGod of glory, touch our lips with the fire of your Spirit, that we with all creation may rejoice to sing your praise; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AmenWe praise the Lord and give thanks for…His grace, love and mercy freely given today. For all the shoeboxes, and all those taking part in the appeal, including the schoolsAt All Saints, our partnerships with other churches
