Each week we will choose a local organisation that serves our community (Doctors Surgery, Pharmacies, Schools, Care Homes, Supermarkets etc) and write personal notes or cards to be delivered to them during the week. We would also include them in the prayers for the next Sunday (we can ask them for items to pray for). We have seen authority so often misused or mishandled. At best, as humans, we can at least expect to have limitations on any authority we may have, and quite rightly so!But this is not so with Jesus’ authority. Jesus’ teaching style had a unique authority, not relying on the texts and thoughts of others to support His teaching. And from His teaching flowed His unique and supreme authority over the natural and supernatural world. The source of Jesus’ authority lay in the truth of who He is. The one who created all things, who is the source of goodness and Light, and above all the one whose authority alone brings hope and new life.We can pray for all earthly and human authorities that they will listen to the Lord, seek His will and be guided by Jesus’ supreme, life – giving authority.We can also pray for ourselves in our relations to others, the words we speak, the thoughts we have, that our relationships will bring healing, wholeness, forgiveness and life. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. This is Jesus, God Himself, sat amongst the likes of us (I’m sure we’ve all been to a wedding!), about to respond to a situation. Revealing that He is God amongst us, and sharing His love and compassion.With so many hard situations in the news at the moment, Jesus reveals that He is the one who can bring hope where there seems none, and meets our human everyday lives with compassion, understanding and the power to transform and heal.Epiphany is the time where we reflect on Jesus’ revelation of who He is. We might consider Jesus at the wedding to reflect on how Jesus understands our daily lives. The things that worry us. Things that cause us to panic. The situations where we can see no answers. The times when we feel no one understands or knows how we’re feeling.Jesus reveals He does know and understands. And more, he meets with us with His love, His power to transform, His hope. This is Jesus, our Lord. Our Saviour. Our Friend.
