I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. John 14 : 16 - 17
Reading for this week : John 14 : 8 – 17
Thought for the week
It’s interesting how words have their meanings changed as a result of society’s attitudes or technologies.
If I was to say that I have seen a Ghost, then perhaps the thing that springs to mind is a scene from “Ghost Busters” or a Victorian melodrama.
The King James Bible refers to The Holy Ghost, which to our 22nd century ears sounds strange.
I can’t say that I have seen a ghost. What I have seen is the result of spiritual activity, for the good or evil.
Jesus, we read, was filled with the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost, if you will) without limit. He did amazing miracles and said that those who followed Him would do even greater things, because He was going to send the Holy Spirit to believers.
Perhaps if we had more of the Holy Spirit, we too would see miracles in our time?

Pentecost Prayers
Holy Spirit, sent by the Father,
ignite in us your holy fire;
strengthen your children with the gift of faith,
revive your Church with the breath of love,
and renew the face of the earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Faithful God,
who fulfilled the promises of Easter
by sending us your Holy Spirit
and opening to every race and nation
the way of life eternal:
open our lips by your Spirit,
that every tongue may tell of your glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
