As Jesus rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen.    Luke 19 : 36 - 37

Thought for the week

We have seen a lot of streets in our news lately. Streets devastated by Russian missiles and shells. Where everyday, joyful life has been interrupted. Children’s toys abandoned. Homes shattered. Life in Ukraine that is so similar to ours brought to an abrupt halt.

Streets in every community are important. Places of everyday meeting and greeting. They are about journeys, about friends and families, about daily tasks and places to be. Streets are about life.

As we come to Palm Sunday Jesus was in the streets. He even rode on the donkey so He could be seen, could be close to people, could be of the everyday moment, bringing Peace.

The everyday was transformed by Jesus’ presence that day and by His entry into Jerusalem. It was a journey into hope through suffering. Into joy through His pain for us. Jesus coming to the Cross so we could have healing and forgiveness and be set free.

Jesus is on our streets. We meet Him in other people. We meet Him in our prayers, and in our journeys. Jesus who is with us every day as our Lord and Saviour,and our Friend.

A Prayer for this week

Almighty and everlasting God,

who in your tender love towards the human race

sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ

to take upon him our flesh

and to suffer death upon the cross:

grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,

and also be made partakers of his resurrection;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

Amen.
