Thought for the week of 7th November 2021

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.   Mark 1 : 16 - 18

Thought for the week

When Greta Thurnberg spoke this week she gave COP26 some much – needed urgency. ‘The world is burning’ she has said. Good things have happened this week, and our prayers for COP26 are vital. Yet it always seems as humans we need the call to urgency. To focus on what is most important. To hear, to lay aside what hinders and to follow.

In our Gospel reading the Lord Himself has broken into our world with Jesus’ baptism. We also hear His call to the disciples. He has broken into our lives. Calls us to focus. To know the Kingdom is now. The time for decision, for change, for action is now.

We are called to pray earnestly for climate change and climate justice.

We are also called by Jesus to work for the building of His Kingdom, that many more people will hear of His saving power, His love and grace in their lives, will come to know Jesus for themselves.

As we enter the time of remembering, we are called to live with the love of Christ burning in our hearts. His presence and His Gospel.

How amazing it would be if the world were burning with Jesus’ love.

Prayer for this week

Heavenly Lord,

You long for the world’s salvation:

Stir us from apathy, Restrain us from excess

And revive in us new hope that all creation will one day be healed

In Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen
