Thought for the week of 23rd April 2023

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”   Luke 24 : 30 - 32

This week’s reading : Luke 24 : 13 - 35

Thought for the week

It seems extraordinary that the disciples on the Emmaus Road did not recognise Jesus. Yet so often we do not realise the closeness of the Lord until later. Often it is a gradual realisation of how much of a part we have in bringing Jesus’ Kingdom. How we personally are called to serve Him and live for Him in our everyday lives. This is a blessing prayer for each of us this week:

May God,
who comes to us
in the things of this world,
bless your eyes
and be in your seeing.

May Christ,
who looks upon you
with deepest love,
bless your eyes
and widen your gaze.

May the Spirit,
who perceives what is
and what may yet be,
bless your eyes
and sharpen your vision.

May the Sacred Three
bless your eyes
and cause you to see.

Prayer for the week

Risen Christ, you filled your disciples with boldness and fresh hope:

strengthen us to proclaim your risen life and fill us with your peace,

to the glory of God the Father. Amen
